The song introduces a West Coast tinge to Craig’s trademark expansive, Americana-influenced sound; fitting for a song inspired by an encounter in San Francisco, where Craig watched as a young man rose from his resting place under a blue gum eucalyptus, to stand tall and look out over the Bay, lifting his face to the morning sun, his outstretched arms echoing the branches of the tree. “I felt that he was signalling a break from the old, while keeping his roots well watered,” says Craig, who took the photograph of this very scene that graces the cover of the single.
